Myth Busters

Myth Buster #3

Fact or Fiction: All diamonds are white.

Answer: Fiction!!!

While most people know diamonds as sparkling colorless gems, they actually come in a variety of colors ranging from yellow, to brown, to even purple! The most rare (and expensive) diamonds are actually colored.

Did you know that roughly 1 out of every 10,000 mined diamonds are colored?

This makes them the most rare and one-of-a-kind. The pricing of each diamond depends on supply vs. demand as well as the following attributes:

- Rarity of color
- Size of the stone
- Strength of color

Rarity of Color

The range of price for natural color diamonds is incredibly broad. The diamonds above can range from $2,500/ct (left side) to $1,500,000/ct (right side)!!!

Size of the Stone

Like most diamonds, the pricing will vary depending on the size of the stone. If all other qualities are the same, the larger the stone, the more valuable it is.

Strength of Color

The price will vary depending on how intense the most prominent color is. Colored diamonds are graded from Light to Vivid in color.
